Treatment Done By Specialists

Difficult tooth extractions or wisdom tooth surgery should be performed by experienced dentists to minimize the risk of complications after the procedure. Skilled dentists can reduce treatment time and shorten recovery periods.

Additionally, the clinic or healthcare facility must maintain a clean, sterile environment that meets hospital-level standards.

For the highest patient safety, Wise Dental Clinic has oral surgery specialists with over 20 years of experience. Our clinic uses new surgical instruments for each case, sterilized following strict hospital-grade protocols.

Is Tooth Extraction Painful?

Tooth extraction is considered the last treatment option dentists choose when the tooth cannot be saved through root canal therapy or fillings. It is used to resolve dental health problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, or abscesses.

Tooth extraction is not as painful as many people think. After the application of local anesthetic and injection of anesthesia, the extraction procedure itself is painless. You might feel some pressure or pulling during the process. After extraction, pain usually lasts about one day, with only mild swelling.

The difficulty of extraction depends on factors such as how many roots the tooth has and whether there is enough tooth structure left to grip with extraction forceps. For example, front teeth usually have one root, while molars have 2 to 3 roots. In cases where there is very little tooth structure left and no portion to grip, surgical extraction may be necessary to remove the tooth. Attempting to extract teeth that require surgery using forceps alone can prolong treatment time and increase the risk of complications, such as roots penetrating the sinus cavity or failure to remove the root completely, which can lead to infection.

Should You Remove Wisdom Tooth?

At Wise Dental Clinic, wisdom tooth surgery includes extra local anesthetic gel and injections to ensure the procedure is completely painless. You will only feel some pressure inside your mouth. Our dentists typically spend about 10–15 minutes (or less) per wisdom tooth extraction, depending on the difficulty, bone density, and patient’s age. Thanks to our surgical techniques, post-surgery pain and swelling are minimal and usually subside within 3–5 days if you strictly follow the doctor’s instructions.

If an impacted wisdom tooth is present but hasn’t erupted and isn’t causing pain, the dentist will recommend an X-ray to assess its position and condition in the jawbone to determine if removal is necessary. If surgery is needed, it should be done promptly to prevent infections that could require major hospital surgery, such as cystic tumors associated with wisdom teeth that extensively damage the jawbone, or wisdom teeth pressing against adjacent teeth causing decay that ultimately requires removal of both the wisdom tooth and neighboring teeth.
