Treatment Information

When tooth decay reaches the pulp chamber, the tooth cannot be treated by filling alone because bacteria have entered the pulp. If you fill the tooth without performing root canal treatment, it will eventually cause pain and infection, possibly leading to an abscess.

Root canal treatment involves cleaning out the infected bacteria from the root canals and then filling them. This procedure is quite complex, especially for molars, since a single molar tooth can have 3–4 root canals.

The treatment is painless because local anesthesia is administered beforehand. After the procedure, you might experience mild pain or tightness around the treated area, but these symptoms typically subside within 2–5 days. If you follow your dentist’s instructions carefully after treatment, the treated tooth with a crown can function just like a natural tooth for chewing.

Why Crowning Is Necessary After The Procedure?

Because teeth requiring root canal treatment often have extensive decay and significant loss of tooth structure, after the dentist removes the decay and completes the treatment, very little natural tooth remains.

If a crown is not placed to protect the tooth, it is likely to fracture in the future, which may ultimately lead to tooth extraction.

Cost Per Tooth

The cost of treatment varies depending on the tooth type:

  • Front teeth: approximately 4,000–6,000 THB
  • Premolars (small molars): 7,000–9,000 THB
  • Molars (large molars): 10,000–12,000 THB

The price difference is due to the greater number of root canals and the increased complexity of treatment in molars.

Wise Dental Clinic recommends placing a post and crown on every tooth that has undergone root canal treatment to prevent fractures. If a root canal-treated tooth breaks, extraction is the only option.

The cost for a post is about 3,000 THB, and a crown costs approximately 14,000–16,000 THB per tooth.

The entire treatment process—from root canal therapy to post and crown placement—usually requires about 3 to 4 visits. For one large molar, the total cost for root canal treatment, post, and crown is approximately 30,000 THB.

We offer transparent pricing and there’s no extra “foreigner cost”.

Root Canal vs Dental Implant

In cases where tooth decay has reached the pulp chamber but there is still a significant amount of natural tooth structure remaining, root canal treatment followed by a crown is recommended, as it preserves your own natural tooth.

However, if the tooth is severely infected or has lost too much structure to be restored, extraction and replacement with a dental implant is advised.

Nowadays, the cost of dental implants is almost comparable to root canal treatment, and the procedure is less complicated.

If you are not ready for an implant, it is recommended to extract the tooth to prevent pain and infection. After extraction, you can use removable dentures or a space maintainer to prevent adjacent teeth from shifting, preserving the site for future implant placement.
